945 Battery Street, located in the North Waterfront District, is a stunning 70,000 sf brick and timber building. Originally built in 1903, it was rebuilt in 1911, and the third story was added in 1916. It originally housed the Ciocca Lombardi Wine Company and later it was a fruit cannery.
We purchased it in 1999 and completely remodeled the building; adding new restrooms, elevators and offices, as well as the addition of the 11,000 sf penthouse – the real beauty of this building. Well-known architect Aston Pereira designed the penthouse to set back from the perimeter of the building, so it’s not visible from street, keeping the original structure of the building intact. We were able to keep many of the original features of the building, including the original wooden loading docks that opened up for the horse-driven carriages to make deliveries. This unique block still has the original cobblestones, wooden carriage stops, and train tracks from years gone by.
