1301 Sansome Street, located at the base of the historic Telegraph Hill and the Filbert Street Steps, was built in 1908. This unique building was the warehouse and home to H.G. Walter’s and his socialite wife, who built a roof top penthouse, complete with a dance floor for entertaining.
When Birmingham purchased the warehouse, they immediately cut into the concrete exterior walls to install floor to ceiling windows to bring in as much natural lights as possible. The unique 38,000 sf concrete structure is now home to Grove Collaborative, which enjoys the rooftop garden deck with both SF Bay and Coit Tower views.
